While "faith and hope" sound like gentle virtues, they are actually fiercely strong. To walk by faith, in hope requires letting go of control and giving ourselves over to a life of encounter. That can be a scary thing for a lot of us. This is why Christ's words to us are so often, "don't be afraid." What we'll learn is that on the other side of control and fear is a dynamic way of spiritual living, which makes us open to communion with God, people, and all of creation.
