The Value of Every Step

Douglas Hearn | Tuesday Jan 14th, 2025

Life unfolds in rhythms of growth—some days bring great strides forward, while others ask for patient, deliberate movement. Both are essential to the journey. Philippians 1:6 (NRSV) reminds us, “I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ.” Progress doesn’t always look bold or swift, but even the smallest steps are part of the unfolding good work within us. Each moment, whether marked by action or quiet persistence, is a valuable piece of our larger story.

When the pace of life slows, it’s easy to feel as though we’re falling behind. But the truth is, every small effort matters. These quieter days are not pauses in our journey but foundational moments where resilience, reflection, and strength take root. The promise in Philippians reminds us that the process is ongoing. It’s not about rushing to the finish line but trusting that the work within us is active and meaningful, even when progress feels slow. The small steps prepare us for the leaps yet to come.

We are not called to move at the same speed every day; we are called to keep moving. Some days invite bold momentum, while others teach us patience and grace. Both are acts of courage. Trusting the process means celebrating all forms of progress, knowing that each step carries us closer to completion. Whether today is a day for leaping ahead or inching forward, we can rest in the assurance that the good work continues—and every step forward is enough.
