Were the Seed Takes Root

There is something comforting about Jesus’ words in this parable. He does not tell us that every seed will immediately grow or that every heart will always be ready. Jesus understands that life is complicated. There are seasons when our hearts are open and full of hope. There are also seasons when we are tired, discouraged, or carrying things that make it hard to hear God’s voice. Yet the good news is this: God never stops planting seeds.

Turns Out God Doesn't Wait for the Exciting Day

"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus..." — Colossians 3:17

There comes a point after Pentecost when the church calendar settles down and, frankly, so does life. No big celebrations. No dramatic stories. Just the long green stretch of ordinary time. It's easy to think nothing much is happening. But maybe that's because we've convinced ourselves that God only shows up in the spectacular. The truth is, most of us aren't living on mountaintops.

Become the Compassion We Need

When Jesus looked out at the crowds, he did not see labels, political tribes, or talking points. He saw people. He saw neighbors carrying burdens that others could not see. He saw people who were exhausted, discouraged, and longing for hope. I think that image speaks directly to our world today. It is easy to become overwhelmed by the division, anger, and hardship around us. It is much harder to slow down, look someone in the eye, and recognize their humanity. Yet that is where compassion begins. It begins when we choose to see one another not as issues to debate, but as people worthy of dignity, care, and love.

The Table Gets Bigger

One of the most beautiful truths of faith is that God's love was never meant for a select few. Again and again, Jesus crossed boundaries that others would not cross. He sat with people others avoided, spoke with those others ignored, and welcomed those others pushed aside. His life reminds us that acceptance is not about agreeing on everything; it is about recognizing the sacred worth and dignity of every person we meet.

When the Spirit Keeps Speaking

Some days it feels easier to stay quiet. To avoid difficult conversations, keep our heads down, and not risk being misunderstood. But in John 15, Jesus reminds his followers that living with compassion, mercy, and truth has never been the easy road. There will always be voices that push back against kindness, inclusion, and justice. Still, Jesus promises that we are not left alone in that work. The Spirit continues to move through ordinary people who are simply trying to love others well.

Holding On Together While Waiting

I think many of us know what it feels like to live in that space between what used to be and whatever comes next. It can feel unsettling. We want answers, reassurance, and some sense that things are going to be okay. Yet the followers of Jesus understood something important during one of those uncertain moments in their lives — they stayed together. They prayed, supported one another, and refused to let fear or uncertainty pull them apart. There is something deeply meaningful about that for us today.
