There is something comforting about knowing that God is not in a hurry. We live in a world that demands immediate results, instant opinions, and quick judgments. We expect people to change overnight and institutions to be fixed by tomorrow. Yet Jesus tells a story where growth takes time. The field is messy. Wheat and weeds grow together, and still the farmer waits. Love, it seems, has its own pace, and it refuses to be rushed.
I have come to believe that this is true of our own lives as well. None of us is simply wheat or simply weeds. We all carry both grace and brokenness, wisdom and blind spots, courage and fear. God does not give up on us because we are unfinished. Instead, God keeps tending the soil, watering our spirits, and trusting that what is good within us will continue to grow. That same patience is a gift we are called to extend to others, especially in a time when it is easier to cancel someone than to care for them.
The writer and theologian Henri Nouwen once said, "Patience is the discipline of compassion." Perhaps that is the invitation for today. Resist the urge to force what only time and love can accomplish. Trust that quiet acts of kindness, persistent justice, and gentle mercy are never wasted. God is still at work in the field, and so are we.
Prayer
Patient God, thank you for never giving up on me. Help me to trust your timing, extend grace to others, and keep cultivating love wherever I am planted. May my life reflect your patience and your hope today. Amen.
