“The greatest among you will be your servant.” — Matthew 23:11
There is a unique joy that comes not from what we receive, but from what we give. When we serve others—whether through a simple act of kindness, a listening ear, or meeting a practical need—we tap into the heart of Christ, who came not to be served but to serve. Service shifts our focus outward and reminds us that we are part of something bigger than ourselves. It is in lifting others up that we often find our own spirits lifted.
Serving others does not always require grand gestures. Joy can be found in holding a door open, sharing a meal, writing an encouraging note, or offering time to someone who feels forgotten. These seemingly small acts ripple outward, creating light in the lives of others and in our own. When we choose service, we discover that joy is not diminished by giving—it is multiplied.
In serving, we encounter a deep truth: joy grows where love is poured out. Jesus’ words remind us that greatness is not found in status or power, but in humility and compassion. When we embrace a servant’s heart, we not only reflect God’s love but also experience the joy of knowing that our lives can make a difference. True joy is discovered when our hands and hearts are open to others.
