Joy in Forgiveness

Douglas Hearn | Monday Oct 6th, 2025

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” — Ephesians 4:32

Few things free the heart for joy like forgiveness. Carrying resentment, anger, or bitterness weighs us down and keeps us from experiencing peace. But when we forgive—whether releasing someone else or even ourselves—we make space for joy to enter. Forgiveness is not forgetting or excusing, but letting go of what binds us so that healing can begin.

The joy of forgiveness often comes quietly. It might be a deep breath after a hard conversation, a sense of release in prayer, or the first step toward reconciliation. Forgiveness opens the door to freedom, and in that freedom, joy flourishes. It is God’s way of reminding us that love has the final word.

Christ’s forgiveness for us sets the ultimate example. When we extend grace to others, we reflect God’s mercy and invite joy into both our lives and theirs. Forgiveness is never easy, but its reward is profound: a heart unburdened, open to love, and alive with joy.
