Never Meant To Be Lived Alone

Douglas Hearn | Monday Jul 14th, 2025

Christianity is a faith centered on Christ—a life modeled after his example of reaching out, showing mercy, and staying present with others. From the very beginning, Jesus did not live in seclusion or call people into private devotion alone. He walked among the crowds, touched the sick, spoke with outcasts, and built deep connections with ordinary people. His way was never one of isolation. Instead, Jesus showed that the path of faith is walked together—in community, with compassion, and through relationship.

The urge to pull away from others when life feels overwhelming is understandable. But Christ’s example calls us to move toward, not away. He showed us that healing happens in connection, and hope grows when we share life with others. The Apostle Paul captured this truth when he wrote, “If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honored, all rejoice together with it” (1 Corinthians 12:26, NRSV). Christian life is not meant to be private—it is shared, honest, and grounded in care for one another, just as Christ cared for those around him.

One simple way to live this out today is to reach out to someone who may be feeling alone. A quick check-in, a kind message, or an invitation to talk can reflect the presence of Christ far more than grand words. When we follow Jesus, we learn that love isn’t abstract—it’s active. Choosing not to isolate, but instead to connect, is one way we live Christ’s message in our everyday lives.
