Packing Light: Essentials for Life’s Pilgrimage

Douglas Hearn | Monday May 13th, 2024

“For we walk by faith, not by sight." - 2 Corinthians 5:7

As I reflect on my recent travels, I can't help but acknowledge my shortcomings in packing efficiently. It's a familiar scenario - at the end of the journey, I discover that many of the items I deemed essential remained untouched. This realization prompts me to contemplate what truly belongs in my "suitcase of life" as I continue my pilgrimage.

At the forefront of essentials lies belief and courage, attributes that enable us to navigate life's uncertainties with conviction and resilience. The journey of life often demands that we step into the unknown, taking risks that challenge our comfort zones. Just as a traveler must possess the courage to venture forth, so too must we muster the strength to embrace the inner journey, guided by faith rather than fear.

While the desire for security is innate, true growth occurs when we dare to depart from our cozy confines. Like travelers longing for home, we are drawn to familiarity and stability. Yet, it is precisely in moments of discomfort and uncertainty that we uncover our deepest truths and forge our paths forward.

As we embark on life's pilgrimage, let us pack light, carrying only the essentials of faith, courage, and an unwavering commitment to the journey ahead.
