Someone once said to me, “Every day is a gift—what will you choose to do with it?” I don’t remember who said it. Maybe it was a teacher, a friend, or someone passing through my life at just the right time. But those words stayed with me, not as a simple reminder to be grateful, but as a challenge. Because the truth is, if today is truly a gift, then what we do with it matters. Deeply. Ephesians 5:15–16 (NRSV) says, “Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil.” That’s not just ancient wisdom—it’s a call to intentional, courageous living in a complicated world.
If we see today as sacred, then we begin to treat our time, our voice, and our choices with care. That means not turning away from injustice, even when it’s uncomfortable. It means checking in on a neighbor, advocating for equity, or making space for someone who’s been pushed to the margins. It might mean resting when everything demands productivity, or raising your voice when silence feels safer. We don’t always know how much time we’ll have, but we do know we have this moment. And with it, the power to be healers, builders, truth-tellers, and peace-makers.
So—what now? What will you do with this one day you’ve been given? The world doesn’t need more apathy. It needs more love with hands and feet, more justice shaped by compassion, more people who see today not just as another page on the calendar, but as an opportunity to live honestly and love deeply. The day is yours. Let it be lived, not just endured. Let it be given, not just used. And if it is a gift—then let’s spend it like it matters. Because it does.
