The Journey Begins

Douglas Hearn | Tuesday Dec 2nd, 2025

Scripture: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

- 2 Corinthians 5:7

Advent often begins with a small stirring inside - a gentle nudge that says, “It’s time to begin again.” We may not know where the path leads this year, and maybe that’s the point. Advent isn’t about certainty; it’s about courage. It’s about trusting that God meets us in the very first step.

As we enter this season, we’re invited to stay awake to the quiet ways hope shows up. Sometimes it comes softly - through a moment of peace, a kind word, a breath we didn’t realize we needed. In these small arrivals, we learn that God’s presence is often woven into the ordinary, nudging us forward even when the road feels unclear.

The journey of Advent reminds us that we never walk alone. God is already ahead of us, preparing the way, guiding our steps, and whispering encouragement in the stillness. Our task is simply to follow-openhearted, expectant, willing to see hope in places we might have overlooked.

Prayer:
Loving God, as this Advent journey begins, help us to walk by faith with open eyes and open hearts. Keep us attentive to the quiet gifts of hope You place along the way. Lead us gently toward the promise of new beginnings. Amen.
